what does this mean for roy moore? and i guess i'm asking how much of the vote do you think is malleable and susceptible to being lobbied by an appearance or two from the president? >> it's hard to know specifically where the vote stands because alabama is not a market that's usually competitive. that said the most recent surveys do suggest that moore has the advantage and this is why donald trump's trip is so critical because donald trump imself still, unlike in many states, has an approval rating over 50% in the state. and here is where i think some were surprised tonight and that is that we were definitely expecting him to go after doug jones. were we expecting him to doubt, put into question the verasty of the accusations against roy moore and go after the accuser? well, that is what he did and that heeds into what is happening in alabama and the reason roy moore has been able to stay afloat and because far too few people actually believe the accusations against roy moore and so here you have the president now with

so, again, roy moore got 37% of the vote total in this county in 2012. he is running obviously well behind that. the hope for moore would be that the city of birmingham is all in. in some of those republican suburbs account for the lion's share. and maybe he can win those suburbs, bring his countywide total up a little bit. could somehow make up a margin there. again, the suburbs of jefferson county are exactly the suburbs that the jones campaign has been targeting. you're talking about voters here with college degrees. suburbanites, professional class. these are the folks we've been seeing across the state who are moving away from moore. so to make up a margin, let's see if we can go out statewide. make up 13,000 votes with what jones still has coming in in mobile, and we can check montgomery county. see if we can get a little bit more. it's tough to see. it really would be a combination of shelby county and some suburban precincts in jefferson county. that's the math that moore would need right now to come from behind. but wow, i think it's safe to say
